Corporate health cost calculator: The cost to your organisation

See what certified sick days and resignations cost you today. Work out, with your own figures, the point at which a programme pays for itself.

Replacement cost of one resignation

As a multiple of annual salary: hiring, onboarding and lost output. Without your own figure, start with the lowest.

Add it and we calculate the break-even line.

The hidden loss: working while unwell

Studies put 18–60% of total health-related losses here. It is an estimate; we do not turn it into TRY without measuring, and it is not in the total.

We do not forecast a return. The base case assumes zero programme effect; the calculation only shows the point at which a programme pays for itself.

Assumptions and sources

Every step of the calculation is open. Wherever you enter your own data, the default drops out.

ItemAssumptionSource
Sick days1.88 certified sick days per insured employee a year, 0.96 to 2.44 by sector. Only medically certified days count.[1]
Cost of one workdayAnnual gross salary divided by 220 workdays. Employer contributions not included.Calculation rule
Replacement cost0.25, 0.5 or 1 times annual salary. Gallup gives a range of half to twice; our lowest scenario sits below it.[2]
Working while unwell18–60% of total health-related losses. An estimate, not added to the TRY total.[3]
Programme effectZero in the base case. Large randomised trials found that broad wellness programmes did not reduce absence in the first 18 to 24 months.[4][5]
What can be measuredMeta-analysis of 80 randomised trials: physical-activity programmes at work reduce physical and mental-health complaints; effects on organisational outcomes are small.[6]

Worked example

A 200-person unit, average gross salary 100,000 TRY a month, 2.44 sick days per employee a year (aerospace and defence, SGK 2025), 12% annual turnover, replacement cost of half a year's salary, and an example programme budget of 1,200,000 TRY a year.

The programme pays for itself if it prevents 2 resignations a year, a relative drop of 8.3% in resignations. Covering the same budget through sick days alone would take 45.1% fewer sick days, which the research does not support.

Example values, not an organisation's data.

What we promise

ME Consultancy measures your employees' physical capacity and wellbeing with validated tests and scales at baseline and at the end of the programme. We report only what we measure: how many people we reached, how the share in risk bands changed, and the confidence interval around that change. We do not promise a financial return; instead we calculate, with your own data, the point at which the programme pays for itself. Individual data belongs to the employee; your organisation sees only anonymous, aggregate results.

Questions

Why don't you give an ROI multiple?

Because there is no honest basis for one. Randomised trials with thousands of employees found that broad wellness programmes did not reduce absence or health spending in their first two years. We show instead the point at which a programme pays for itself, and the change we measure.

Where does the sick-day default come from?

From the SGK 2025 Statistical Yearbook: cases and average days per case for 4/1-a insured employees. These are medically certified days only; short absences and days spent working while unwell are not in the figure. Your own HR data gives a more accurate result.

What does the break-even line mean?

The yearly cost of the programme expressed as resignations to avoid, or as the cut in sick days it would take. If one resignation costs half a year's salary to replace, a programme with a budget of one person's annual salary pays for itself by preventing 2 resignations a year.
